Sewing Organization

A Realistic Goal for 2017; An Organized Sewing Room

One of my goals this year is to create a minimalist sewing experience.  How does one do that you ask? I have no freaking clue.  I know it involves actually going through everything and reevaluating if it sparks joy or if it is apart of creating a meaningful experience. But I’m not sure how to start.  I have a fear that if my sewing tools have been taken away from me then I will no longer be creative.  I have in my head that I am not talented without the tools in front of me.  But here’s the thing; my sewing room has been so unorganized that I haven’t actually been using my tools or talents to actually create.  In a way, I am responsible for causing my fear to be realized.  It’s a humbling experience realizing this and now it’s time to change.  This blog will help me in recording my experiences of creating a space where I will create.

But before I can go forward…let me share with you pictures of my sewing room and what I have to work with…

Whew.  I did it.  I pushed the “submit” button.  Here is sewing room, the garage, and my guest bedroom closet.  Obviously you can see whats in the pictures…fabric, fabric, …and a little bit of fabric.  Ok, I have art and sewing tools too…but, they are somewhere in the fabric…my closet in the sewing room is filled with fabric and patterns. It was worse and I was way more overwhelmed until my husband had me fill large Rubbermaid totes with all the other sewing materials…which are the large stacks of totes in the garage.  And I also have fabric in the guest bedroom.  I barely had room to walk into my sewing room to my desk…let alone use my nice new expense Bernina 1008 (Squeeeeeee!).  So, now you can see why I was full of negative anxiety. I had no room to breathe literally and creatively.

Ahem.  Excuse me for a minute…

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! <>

Ok.  I’m good.  First step to fixing the problem is to acknowledge it, right?

Goal.  In one year I will make several garments, sell them online (that’s another post), reduce clutter and organize my sewing space.  This will help me start my journey into what minimalist sewing is.
